Yesterday Corbin had a simple surgery to have ear tubes put in. For the past couple years, we have been bouncing around from our doctor, to the audiologist, speech therapist and then finally an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist trying to get to the bottom of Corbin's hearing troubles. All along the doctors have diagnosed conductive hearing loss caused by limited movement of his ear drum. Finally the doctors decided to go ahead with surgery to put in ear tubes. The goal was to release any fluid trapped behind the ear drum hopefully allowing the ear drum to move correctly and his hearing to return to normal. Time will tell if the tubes corrected the problem. He has been seeing a speech therapist informally at school, and will be evaluated officially now that he has had the tubes put in. The hope would be his speech will quickly improve assuming he is hearing better.
As far as the surgery, it went smoothly and today Corbin acts completely back to normal. They told him, he could bring a stuffed animal. He brought his moose. The staff was so great, they checked in moose & Corbin, giving them both bracelets with their names on it. Everything they did to check Corbin, they did to moose. Both moose and Corbin survived the surgery with a smile:
