A moment to remember

Last year Trent had a huge passion for lions. Although, this phase has largely passed, it occasionally makes an surprise come back. Then in September when the Oregon Zoo opened the new lion exhibit, Trent was enthralled. So this Saturday when we got an unexpected sunny day, we headed to the zoo to see the lions again.

When we first stop by the lions, they were laying on the same rocks we had seen him on last time. We enjoyed seeing them, but nothing overly exciting. So we moved on to the rest of Predators of the Serengeti exhibit. After making the rounds, we ended up back at the lions den just at the right time. The lions were on the move. Trent sat down right up against the window of the lion's den and watched as one of the female lions came right up to the glass and was nose to nose with Trent (of course, I forgot my camera and missed this photo opportunity). We sat and watched the other female lion join us and finally the male walked into the den too. There we were- the three lions and us. The only thing separating us was the glass. They were inches away from us. I have never seen Trent so mesmerized in my life. We watched the lions nip, groom and cuddling together until the finally all passed out. (here is the only picture I managed to get from my phone) Trent's favorite moment was when the male lion walked right up to the glass and seemed to look directly at Trent. Overall, we sat and watched for 30 minutes. Trent was beyond happy.

It was a short moment in time, but was a moment I won't shortly forget
