April First!

In honor of April Fool's Day (otherwise the First of April), I am going to write another entire blog about recent FIRSTS in our family!

1. First Stitches! OUCH!
On Monday, we started off the day with Trent taking a head dive into the entertainment center. The result was a deep cut right above his left eyebrow. I called my mom to come over to watch Corbin and Becca, and I took him in to get stitches. It was very traumatic at the doctors. He was strapped to a board in a blanket with Velcro. He couldn't move, then they put a small sheet over his head to block the bright lights out of his face. There was a small hole in the blanket big enough to give the doctor access to the cut. It took four stitches to close the cut. Trent was very brave, despite screaming the entire time. He quickly recovered when they gave him a lion sticker. Since then, Trent has been largely unfazed. My dad suggested that maybe this incident will slow him down, but it hasn't. We were at the store yesterday, and everyone was asking him what happened. He just looked at the people like they were crazy- he doesn't even realize his eye is still hurt. I am feeling good to have survived our first stitches. I am sure it won't be our last.

2. First time standing up
Becca has been racking up the first lately. A couple weeks ago she started crawling, then her first tooth, now she is pulling herself up to standing! As soon as she mastered crawling, it took her no time to realize she could crawl to the couch and pull herself up. Check it out:

3. First Spring Break
This week is Corbin's first Spring Break from school. Yesterday, he got to take a special spring break trip with his Uncle Jim, Aunt Heidi, Grandma, Grandpa and a few cousins to Kahneeta Hot Springs. (We all were suppose to go with him, but since Trent got stitches, he wasn't allowed to go swimming, so we stayed home). Corbin had a fantastic time. They played in the snow on their way over the mountain, and then went swimming in the warm springs. He had so much fun!

4. First Trip
Tomorrow, Becca and I leave for Knoxville. It will be Becca's first airplane trip and my first airplane trip by myself with a baby/child. Also, my first trip to Knoxville! I am so excited, and also incredibly nervous about the 7 1/2 hr of travel time. There will definitely be a post after our trip- so stay tuned!

5. First Report Card
Ok, not technically Corbin's first report card, but it feels like it. I can't explain why, but it does. His first report card was this fall, so this is really his second- maybe this one feels like the first because they actually have more to report on at this point. Corbin had a great report card, with a nice comment from his teacher saying, "Corbin is continuing to do a fabulous job at school. He is doing well in all areas of the curriculum!" We are so proud of Corbin.

6.First Soccer Game
Trent's first soccer game is this Saturday! I am so bummed that I am going to miss it. Trent had his first practice last week. He was quite lost on the field, but had a smile on his face the whole time!

7. First Word?!
This one may be a little bit of a stretch, but Becca is starting to put sounds together and Mama may just be her first word. I can't really believe that she is connecting her babble to meaning yet, but the early evidence is mounting that she is. She is babbling like crazy, mostly saying ba ba ba..., but just this week, both Mark and I noticed her starting to say ma ma ma. But she has only said ma ma, when she is trying to get to me (usually when she is sad and wants me to pick her up). So there you go. I am going to claim it. Becca's first word is MaMa!! (both boys said DaDa for their first, so I am counting Becca's as MaMa, whether she means it or not)

I think that catches you up on all the Firsts at the Sarvela house. Happy April First!
