Orcas Island Weekend

This past weekend we went to Orcas Island to help celebrate Marleen's birthday. We went with my good friends Noel, Kara, her husband Kacey, Marleen, and her son Julian (who is 6). I was really looking forward to spending time with my girlfriends and getting a chance to share Becca with them. Corbin and Trent were looking forward to hanging out with Julian- the three boys are good buddies! And Mark was just coming along to get away for the weekend!

Marleen made all the arrangements and found this great place to stay- the Bayside Cottages. We stay at the Plum Tree Cottage which had three bedrooms with their own private baths (perfect for three families!), there was a full kitchen, large living/dining area and an attached family room. Plenty of room for the ten of us for a weekend. The cottage looked over the sound and had a view of Mount Baker. This is a picture looking out the upstairs window at the view.

We had an hour and half ferry ride to get to Orcas Island. The boys were thrilled to ride on the BIG boat. Trent said it was his favorite part of the whole weekend. He called the ferry a large Pirate Ship, which made the ferry ride magical for him. During the ride, the boys walked around the deck and played, while the girls and Kacey hung out inside and visited (and took turns holding Becca). I love this picture of Mark with Julian, Corbin and Trent, and the one of Noel, Becca and me!

We spent most of the weekend just hanging out at the house. We took turns preparing meals, which meant a lot of the weekend was spent cooking and eating WONDERFUL food and drinking wine. Noel and the boys made Marleen's birthday cake and yummy pumpkin muffins in addition to all the meals. In the evenings, we put on movies for the kids and played games. There is nothing like spending the evening with good friends and playing games like Cranium and Taboo.

Saturday afternoon we did venture out to explore Orcas Island. We drove to the top of Mt. Constitution (the highest point on the San Juan Islands). From the top of the mountain, there was a small tower you could climb and look out over the sound. That is Kacey on the top of the tower. The view was GORGEOUS, but it was extremely cold.

The whole weekend was wonderful. It made me long for more time to spend with my girlfriends. Thank you ladies for a fabulous weekend, and once again, Happy Birthday Marleen!

The cottage looks really nice! I wish I was there. A weekend of food, wine and of course GAME PLAYING sounds very complete.

You know...the Smokies have cabins and such like this. If you and Mark and any or all of the kids come to Tennessee, we could go stay there and eat, drink and play games! ...just a thought...
