Kids & boxes

For some reason, all kids seem to be drawn to boxes. They are just destined for each other. Babies at their first birthday notoriously show more interest in the boxes than the actual gifts. And my boys still jump at the chance to have a box to play with. The bigger the better.

Last week, Mark received a couple of packages in the mail for his birthday and the boys were thrilled to get to keep the empty boxes. They quickly disappeared into their room with their loot. Mark and I were pleasantly surprised by how the boys used the boxes. They played "college".

The boys came out of their room with the boxes pack full. They carried them into the laundry room and said, "we are moving out mom and going to college". This is our new college room, our dorm room. I asked what college they were going to and they said Gonzaga. Check out their boxes- clearly labeled for college:

"please retern!" "Collage box with toys" "I am going to Collage!" "this box belogs to Corbin and trent!"

The other box was similarly labeled but said "Collage box with cloths". After they moved into their dorm room, they walked around their new house exploring. I heard them open the game closet saying, "Wow, look at this game closet. They have all the best games. College is cool." Then they came into the kitchen, Corbin pointed to the candy dish, "Score, they have candy at college." After the tour, the boys came up to me, "Hi Ma'am, where do we sign up for the Gonzaga basketball team?" After signing up, they asked where the gym was (in the hallway where the nerf hoop is set up) and they immediately started basketball practice.

Mark and I were quite amused with the boys play. Mark commented, that it is definitely pretend play that should be encouraged! Reinforce that they will be heading to college some day. The boys have continued to play their game of college all week.

Happy Thanksgiving

What a wonderful day to celebrate all that we are thankful for, spend time with family & friends and for eating yummy food. I am very thankful for these three:

And this handsome man:

And in light of Gonzaga's winning the Maui Inivitational last night, I am thankful for Gonzaga basketball.

I am also thankful for my extended family, my friends, our jobs, a warm house, my health and the health of family & friends.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Gym Head?

Saturday Mark and I had the privilege to go to the NCAA 2nd round games in Portland which included Washington vs. Purdue and Gonzaga vs Western Kentucky U. We were not planning on going, but tickets just happened to fall into our hands. Thanks to my mom's friend/coworker, Paula, who had extra tickets and offered them to my parents, who didn't want to spend the money so offered them to us. SWEET! It was an amazing experience highlighted by the Gonzaga last minute shot to win and send them to the Sweet Sixteen. Simply Incredible- It is an experience I won't soon forget.

When we got home from the game, I told Mark that I had "gym head". He did not know what that meant. I explained it was a condition my parents use to get after spending too much time in a gym watching basketball. It includes a headache from over stimulation of loud noises (buzzer, clapping, balls dribbling, fans cheering), bright lights, stuffiness, smell of sweat, etc. Kind of like a basketball hang over.

The next morning, Mark said he had a different type of "gym head". His symptoms were an inability to sleep due to reliving the game in his head, and continued high/excitement from watching your team win a nail biter.

Have you ever experienced "gym head" by either definition? Should it be a real condition?
