This past weekend, we went camping with this wonderful group of people:
We stayed at Squaw Rock Resort in Naches, WA. We went looking forward to plenty of sunshine and hotter weather than we have on the west side of the Cascades. Unfortunately, that is not what Mother Nature gave us. Instead, we experienced unusually high winds, and two thunderstorms. We struggled to get our tent up- with the wind trying to blow it away. Then at one point all 11 of us huddled under the quick shade waiting for a storm to pass. The weather definitely kept us on our toes. We managed to play cards by using rocks as paper weights. Meals were a challenge as napkins and plates, even our cups were constantly blowing away. But the weather didn't put a damper on our trip. Instead, we just enjoyed each other's company and being outdoors in a beautiful place.
If you asked the kids their favorite part of the trip, they'd tell you swimming. The wind made swimming quite chilly, but the kids seemed unfazed by it.
Our big outing was a trip to Boulder Cave.
We explored the river next to our site.
We visited a nearby park
The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing at the campsite. We played lots of cards and games, visited around the campfire,
roasted marshmallows, made s'mores & banana boats,
ate lots of gourmet camping meals,
and discovered a new camping pastime- Where's Waldo.
We had a great weekend. We are so grateful for such wonderful friends! We can't wait for Thanksgiving weekend, when we will all be together again to celebrate the holiday.
